Our Lunch & Learn sessions are ideal for filling in the gaps, answering questions and as a follow up to hands-on training. We provide the laptop, projection unit and knowledge. You provide the location, screen (or white wall) and participants. Everyone brings their own lunch although we know that attendance is always higher if lunch is provided for them (even if it's just pizza).

An alternative to on-site training is to do on-line training. With GotoMeeting, we can conduct training at your computer one-on-one or up to 9 participants can join in from their own desks. We communicate via a conference call.

Each session is about an hour to an hour and a half in length. Q&As are welcome during the class or after.

Here's a sample of some of the Lunch & Learns we offer. If you don't see what you're looking for, we can put together any session you want. Just tell us what you want or use these as a jumping-off point.

Safe Computing
Predators are at the Door....Are you safe?

Thousands of criminals want to steal your money and your information every single day through your computer. This class will concisely explain the purpose, the tactics and the technology used by cybercriminals and what you can do to thwart their attempts. You’ll learn about viruses, worms, spam, spyware, Trojan horses, and more. You’ll learn what to do to eliminate the ones your computer might now be harboring as well as what to do to prevent new ones from attacking. You’ll learn what those pesky pop-ups and messages mean and how to determine if they are legitimate.
You’ll get a short, easy-to-understand list of do’s and don’ts to protect yourself and your intellectual property when surfing and using email. The information presented is targeted at keeping you and your organization from intruders and thieves, which requires that everyone be knowledgeable. Not a lot…just an hour’s worth of training is all you need.
Being a by-stander when it comes to computer security is no longer an option. On a network – even a home network – inaction or lack of knowledge on one person’s part puts everyone at risk.

Microsoft Windows
Windows Explorer

Although you’ve used Windows for years now, you may not really know how to use Windows Explorer. It is the heart of your computer and your understanding of it’s capabilities helps you work effectively. Use it to move, copy, rename and delete files and folders, understand the relationship of parent and child folder so you can find documents down the road, recognize what drives are available to you (and what they do), and learn what the all-important extension is for all files and why it’s important.

Internet
Efficiently Using Internet Explorer

You’ve probably been surfing for years now. But you may not be taking advantage of the valuable functions that can save you time and keep you safe from cybercriminals. This class shows you how to create multiple home pages and why that’s helpful, how to organize Favorites, and how to use the Links/Favorites toolbar to maximize the use of screen space.

Working with Image Files
.JPGs, .BMPs, .TIFs and .PDFs

If your job includes working with images whether they are imported from a digital camera or scanned or downloaded, you will benefit from this class. If you work with Summation or Concordance, you work with images. If you are in charge of getting exhibits prepared or create PowerPoint presentations, you work with images. If you receive or produce files as PDFs, you work with images.
Discovery information usually arrives on your desk as some type of an image: JPGs, BMPs, TIFs or PDFs (yes, PDFs are an image type). It may not be your choice to work with a specific type, it’s what you were given.
This class explains different image types, what software to use for each, and how to convert from one to another. Something as simple as printing a collection of images with their filename is not an easy task. In this class, you’ll learn how to use free software to provide you with that function as well as the ability to reduce image sizes without reducing quality, a common problem that hits home in many ways (emailing, copying, printing, making discs for outsiders).

Adobe Acrobat Reader
PDF 101

Even if you don’t create PDF files yourself, it’s helpful to understand the many ways a PDF can be created and how it impacts you, as the recipient of one.  PDF files can have two layers: the image layer and the text layer.  But not all PDFs have both, which is why you can use “find” on some and not others. In this training, you'll learn how to create the text layer if there’s not one, how to find information in just one or across many PDF files, and how to “steal the text” to use for editing. You’ll also learn how to stitch together multiple documents into a PDF, add/remove/rearrange pages within one, and even use tools to “cover up” and edit a PDF (yes! a PDF can be edited).

Adobe Acrobat
Finding a Needle in a Haystack

In the collection of PDFs you’ve been given to analyze, you have limited time and resources to find key words or phrases. Hopefully, all the files are searchable. And hopefully, all the pages are portrait. These are just 2 of the showstoppers you need to be aware of before you begin your quest.
Another valuable tip in this class is how to search across the entire collection instead of one PDF at a time.

Adobe Acrobat Redacting with Adobe

Versions earlier than 8 didn’t have a redacting feature but it’s simple enough to just use rectangles. Starting with version 8, there is a redacting feature that is easy to use. But be careful! There is a serious gotcha that will allow opposing counsel to unintentionally see what has been redacted. This is true regardless of the version you’re using.

Adobe Acrobat Finding a Needle in a Haystack

Version 8 and 9 of Adobe Acrobat have an actual Bates numbering feature that allow you to create Bates numbers with leading zeros, shrink the document so Bates numbers print in a blank area, and even remove numbering that was put on with the same version of Adobe. In earlier versions, headers/footers are used for Bates numbering but have many limitations.

Adobe Acrobat
Creating Forms

Make fill-in-the-blank forms with Adobe Acrobat, even with .PDF files that you didn’t originally create.

Microsoft PowerPoint
Design 101

Creating a presentation is simple. It’s knowing what not to do that may not be so simple (i.e. the recommended number of bullets per slide, the optimum font size, the smallest font size that should be used, color combinations). We’ll give you tips on how to create a powerful presentation and common mistakes to avoid. Even if you’ve created presentations in the past, we guarantee that there is valuable information in this class that will be new to you.

Microsoft PowerPoint
PowerPoint for Presenters

Even if you’ve used PowerPoint before, there are probably several key points that we’ll cover in this class that you will find useful: navigating your presentation with the keyboard, mouse or remote device; designing the presentation in a way so the audience doesn’t accidentally see more than you want them to; creating and using speaker notes; creating handouts; and tips about designing a powerful presentation, including the meaning of colors and the guidelines on minimums and maximums per slide.

Microsoft PowerPoint
Animations

PowerPoint helps tell your story in a logical way. Animation helps tell is in an interesting way. And let's face it, whether your audience is a customer or a courtroom, they're all people. They would rather be entertained than informed. Fortunately, you can do both. More than just causing bulleted text to fly in, animation can be used to cause pictures and text to appear, disappear, move and take on special effects. Don't fall into the trap of using the same, safe animations that you see in every other presention. But don't go overboard and use every animation choice in the list. There are guidelines you should follow.

Microsoft PowerPoint
Working with Images

A picture is worth a thousand words ... something you should take advantage of in your PowerPoint presentations. Learn how to insert and animate images, including zoom outs and highlighting text. We’ll also explain how and where to get images, the limitations of using some types, cropping, lightening and blending images into the background.

Microsoft PowerPoint
Drawing Tools

The full set of drawing tools available in PowerPoint give you the flexibility to add shapes, lines, floating text, and images and how to customize them. Don’t let the sound of this fool you into thinking this is something you’ll never use. Not true!! If you use PowerPoint to any degree, you need to know how to use these tools.

Microsoft PowerPoint
Movies, Sound and Other Actions

Lights! Camera! Action! Well, maybe not quite that grand but you can add sound, movies and action to your PowerPoint presentations to enhance the audience’s enjoyment or provide them with a better understanding of the message you’re trying to get across. In this class, you'll learn how (and why) to use hyperlinks, action buttons, embedding sound and linking movies. There are some ‘gotchas’ you need to know.

Netiquette – the do’s and don’ts of email and an important part of doing business via email – and that is also covered in this training.

Microsoft Outlook
Managing Messages

Your inbox can fill up quickly and unless you have some organization method – foldering, deleting, archiving, rules, catorgorizing, flagging, reminders – it becomes time consuming to find what you’re looking for. There are many tools in Outlook that help you manage your Oulook mailbox. Understanding what they do and why you would use one method over another is not easily figured out. This class will clarify that for you.

Even if you are a relative newcomer or a casual user or self taught, there will be lots of information in this class that will help you use WordPerfect successfully and with less frustration. Topics include creating, saving, opening and printing documents; basic formatting, fonts, attributes and page layout.

Corel WordPerfect
Document Construction

Beyond the basics, documents often require some more complex elements such as creating/revising headers and footers, page numbering (including starting and stopping or skipping numbering), squeezing information onto a page, understanding widows and orphans, keeping a signature block together, and more. This class covers it all.

This class is all about Tables and even the most experienced WP user is likely to take away a few valuable tips.

Corel WordPerfect
Mail Merge

Productivity shouldn’t take a nosedive because a new hire needs to “get up to speed” to generate common documents. We can either teach your team how to create their own macros and templates. Or more likely, you may want us to customize our canned collection to fit your needs: letterhead, memo, fax, expense report, pleadings, labels, and a set of tools to automate other time consuming tasks. Note that an overview can be done in a Lunch and Learn but additional time will be required to develope a collection of macros and templates.
